'Jagannath' is a combination of two words 'Jagat'
and 'Natha'. The word 'Jagat' means 'The Universe/World' and 'Natha' means
'Lord/Master'. So the accurate meaning of Jagannath is 'Lord of the Universe'.
In fact the word Jagannath is used for the Lord Vishnu or more accurately for
Shree Krishna. Image or idols of Lord Jagannath has no legs just has the end of
hands and they are in black color. The lord Jagannath is worshipped with his
elder brother Lord Balabhadra, sister Subhadra and powerful Sudarshan Chakra.
Lord Balabhadra is white (enlightment), sister Subhadra is yellow (goodness) and
Sudarshan charka is red in color, hence all these representing four races of
world. Together with Jagannath (Krishna), his brother Balram and sister Subhadra
also do not have legs and hands. These three images are worshipped with Lord
Jagannath in the same form in all the Jagannath temples. These cults of
Jagannath symbolize the universal brotherhood, love, tolerance and equality.
This cult has people of all religion and faith.
